October 9, 7:00-7:30 PM: A virtual reading of the Kinderguides Illustrated edition of Kerouac’s On the Road with illustrations by Rose Forshall, book design by Melissa Medina, and text by Fredrik Colting. The Kinderguides series adapts classic books for a younger audience. This reading features local artist James Hartzell, who will conclude by showing listeners how to make and send a postcard to the spirit of Jack Kerouac–who will answer all postcards with a typewritten letter!

Hi, my name is Jack and I call St. Pete home. One of my favorite things to do is write. I like to write stories that are about my life and about the way I feel. It makes me happy to write and so I try to do it as much as I can. I would like to write to you too!

Send me a postcard and I’ll write you back!

Step 1.
Cut some heavy card stock into a 3.5” x 5” postcard shape.
Ask your parents to help you.

Step 2.
Draw a picture on the front of your postcard.
Draw anything you like!

Step 3.
On the back of your postcard, write me a
letter or a short story or a poem!
