FRIENDS OF JACK KEROUAC
We endeavor to:
Inspire, Educate, and Connect
“The Friends of Jack Kerouac brings to life the literary legacy of Jack Kerouac and highlights his years writing and living in Florida, especially St. Petersburg. Through critical engagement, community exploration, arts and cultural events, we strive to spark the creative spirit within us all.”
Welcome to the online platform of a St. Petersburg, FL based nonprofit, founded in 2013, that led efforts raising awareness of the historical significance of Kerouac’s last living residence and providing maintenance of the property until its sale in June of 2020. We have officially shortened our name to simply “Friends of Jack Kerouac” with a new mission statement listed above.
Our updated roster of Board Members are committed to a positive, inclusive working environment and a renewed passion to provide services to the literary-arts community by continuing to honor the legacy of Jack Kerouac.
Join us in supporting this exciting new chapter of hosting events online and in-person as we move forward with fresh ideas. Our group has secured a Florida Humanities Council grant to further develop a series of bike/walk/driving tours about Kerouac’s time living and working in the Sunshine City.
The Tour De Kerouac is now live and available on the OnCell platform. It is free to the public and delves into historic St. Pete landmarks Kerouac interacted with, the authors productivity while living in Florida, and creative power of art movements like Jazz and the Beat Generation in shaping 20th century American history up to the present day.
